Associate of Science Degree in Computer Information Technology

Program Description
The Computer Information Technology program is designed to train students for employment in various industries that utilize Computer skills and knowledge. Students who successfully complete this program will have knowledge and skills in such areas as programming, database management, information systems, telecommunication and electronics. Courses include theory and skill building. Students have access to the computer lab to complete projects.

The Associate of Science Degree in Computer Information Technology will allow you to achieve global industry certifications while earning credit for your degree program. Our A.S. degree will allow you to complete the required Computer Information Technology coursework, graduate with an Associate in Science degree and gain full credit to continue your studies into the Bachelor of Science degree.

Computer Information Technology Program Objective
Upon completion of the Computer Information Technology Program, students may seek entry-level employment in business, government, or a variety of industries where computer science skills are needed.

The program objectives are:





  • To develop students’ abilities to administer, manage and troubleshoot hardware, software and services for single, mixed and multi-user environments
  • To develop student skills in inspection of security measures to protect data, and the conduct of personnel in relation to protection of data
  • To assist students in becoming more adept in knowledge, theory and practice of network management
  • To prepare students for positions as a technical support specialist, help-desk technician, systems administrator or computer security professional
  • To develop students’ abilities to think critically and communicate effectively
Career Coursework
When you specialize your AS in Computer Information Technology, your coursework may include some of these career-enhancing courses:
  • Programming - Introduction to computers, packaged software, statistical packages, spreadsheets and programming in a high-level language. Introduction to the design and implementation of algorithms. Structured programming, problem-solving techniques, arrays, procedures, parameters and recursion.
  • Information Systems I&II - Information systems for students pursuing programs in computer information sciences and technology. Exploration of specification, design, and implementation of information systems directed at aiding decision making in organizations.
  • Microcomputer Operating Systems - Exploration of microcomputer applications in business. Introduction to current business uses of the microcomputer, including spreadsheets, database management, word-processing, and decision-making models
  • Administrative Computer Systems - Introduction to the concept of databases, including the storage, manipulation, evaluation, and display of data, and related issues.
  • Database Management Systems - Exploration of computers as learning tools. Using software to support learning, including databases, spreadsheets, semantic networks, expert systems, hypermedia construction, modeling tools and computer conferencing
  • Telecommunications I - An introduction to the basic concepts of computer and communication networks. Topics include telecommunications transmission media, transmission characteristics, error characteristics, detection, and correction, local and wide area networking applications, hardware, and software, network security and recovery.
