Program Description
A field where employment is expected to grow steadily for many years, economics and finance are one of the most dynamic and expansive areas of the business world. Earn your business-focused bachelor's degree with a specialization in Economics from ATLANTIS UNIVERSITY and you'll learn from faculty with real-world finance experience. Through experiential learning methods, you'll become qualified to work with the new and diverse financial products and services of a global economy. Upon graduation, pursue careers in economics in such areas as bank management, credit management, insurance analysis, financial planning and much more.

The Business Economics Concentration presents concepts that support the understanding of economic behavior and business decisions. Students learn how individual industries function and gain an understanding of how the market economy functions as a whole. Students learn to evaluate how changes in technology, government regulation, and market circumstances will impact their own lives, organizations of which they are a part, and society.

  • Investment Fundamentals and Security Analysis - Introducing security analysis and valuation, this course focuses on how to make investment decisions by exploring the nature of securities, mechanics and costs of trading, the way in which securities markets operate, the relationship between risk and return, equity securities, fixed income securities, portfolio diversification, and concepts of valuation.
  • Money and Banking - In this course, students delve into the global financial system, exploring the role of financial services companies in money and capital markets. Topics include the nature of money and credit, U.S. banking systems, central bank policies and controls, funds acquisitions, investments, and credit extension.
  • Financial Statement Analysis - This course focuses on techniques used to analyze and interpret financial statements, and how to use the statement to understand and evaluate a firm's financial strength, income potential, working capital requirements, and debt-paying ability.
  • Fixed Income Securities and Credit Analysis - Topics in this course include debt securities characteristics, provisions for paying off bonds, debt market structure, bond investment risk, global bond sectors and instruments, yield spreads and measures, valuation, spot and forward rates, interest rate risk, term structure and volatility of interest rates, bonds with embedded options, mortgage-backed securities, asset-backed securities, trading strategies, and credit analysis.
  • International Financial Management - Exploring specific issues facing international business firms and banks, this course covers the evolution of the international monetary system. Topic include balance of payments, the function of foreign exchange markets, foreign exchange rate determination, operation of foreign currency and global capital markets, and the use of international debt and equity markets to optimize firms' financial structure
